PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo will host its annual Día de los Muertos celebration on October 30, bringing together traditional music, dance, and cultural activities that honor the Mexican tradition of remembering loved ones who have passed. The holiday, which dates back thousands of years to indigenous Mesoamerican rituals, celebrates death as a natural part of life’s cycle rather than something to fear or mourn.
WHAT: Día de los Muertos Celebration: “Al Son de la Vida y la Muerte”
The evening centers on a Ballet Folklorico performance featuring special guests Mariachi Lobos and Grupo Xochitl. Throughout the venue, guests can participate in traditional craft making (God’s Eyes, Nicho’s, and Alebrijes), play Lotería, create ofrendas (memorial altars), enjoy Pan de Muerto and Cafe de Olla, and get face painting with traditional calavera designs.
