The campus community recently announced a new addition to the CSU Pueblo leadership team. Dr. Andreas Mueller has been appointed as the Dean of the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences (CHASS).
A Leader with Vision and Experience
When the search committee set out to find the new CHASS dean, they were looking for someone with deep experience, innovative thinking, and a genuine commitment to student success.
Dr. Mueller has over twenty years of academic leadership across institutions in both the United States and the United Kingdom. He brings a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective to the campus community. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated excellence in several key areas that align perfectly with CSU Pueblo’s mission:
- Strategic planning that responds to evolving educational needs
- Faculty development and curriculum innovation
- Student success initiatives that center on real-world readiness
- Institutional transformation that embraces positive change
Dr. Mueller’s leadership approach emphasizes experiential learning opportunities, interdisciplinary innovation, and strengthening community partnerships – all priorities that will help our students thrive in today’s complex world.
Academic Background
Before joining the ThunderWolf family, Dr. Mueller served as Interim Dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences at Central Connecticut State University. His leadership journey also includes department chair positions at Metropolitan State University of Denver, the University of Northern Colorado, and the University of Worcester in the United Kingdom.
Beyond his administrative accomplishments, Dr. Mueller maintains active engagement in scholarly work. As an expert in eighteenth-century British literature with a focus on Daniel Defoe, he continues contributing to digital scholarly editing and literary research – demonstrating his commitment to remaining connected to his academic discipline even while leading at the highest levels.
A Perfect Fit for CSU Pueblo
What makes Dr. Mueller especially well-suited for CSU Pueblo is his deep commitment to values we hold dear: equity, innovation, and the public mission of higher education.
Dr. Gail Mackin, our Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs, puts it best, “Dr. Mueller’s vast higher education experience and commitment to collaborative strategic visioning will serve the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences well. His emphasis on engaging with the community to enhance existing and create new partnerships for experiential learning opportunities, career opportunities, and fundraising will advance the College’s relations within Pueblo and Southern Colorado.”

As Dr. Mueller begins his leadership journey with CHASS, he’ll be focused on continuing our momentum in providing student-centered academic excellence while forging new paths for growth and community engagement.
