CSU Pueblo welcomed 107 high school students and 13 school sponsors from across the region for its annual Math and Science Day on campus. The event drew participants from nine schools, including Gateway, Swink, Custer County, Pine Creek, Central, Centennial, Fountain Fort Carson, East and Dutch Clark Digital, along with one homeschool student.
More than a dozen CSU Pueblo students volunteered throughout the day, leading morning academic activities, grading competitions, managing the math bowl and running lab demonstrations.
In the math bowl competition, Swink High School took first place with team members Jennifer Gardner, Danner Carroll and Grant Pickering. Pine Creek High School secured second place with Helen Wan, Angelina Wan and Shivam Singh.
Pine Creek students swept the Swanson competition. Helen Wan placed first, while Angelina Wan and Shivam Singh tied for second place.
The event gave high school students a chance to experience college level STEM activities while competing alongside peers from different schools.
