CSU students, faculty, and staff may have seen warning messages during Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) logins. These alerts are part of a university-wide effort to improve cybersecurity—and they’re a signal to update your device or browser now.
During Duo authentication, users will see warnings if their device or browser needs an update. These warnings will continue until enforcement begins for that device type. Once enforcement begins, Duo will block access from outdated systems entirely.
In addition, the Duo Mobile app on mobile devices also needs to be up to date. Duo Mobile should update automatically via the iOS App Store or Google Play Store on supported mobile OS versions.
Key dates and impacted systems
On Feb. 2, 2026, Duo will deny access from:
- Unsupported operating systems: Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1.
- Outdated browsers used to initiate or approve Duo authentication.
- Outdated Duo Mobile app (below 4.85.0)
- If Duo Mobile is not up to date by Feb. 2, users will no longer receive Duo Push notifications.
- Users can still open the app and generate passcodes but push approvals will stop working.
This applies to any device used to log in or approve Duo pushes, including computers, phones and tablets.
On August 31, 2026, Duo will deny access from:
- Windows 10
Important: After these deadlines, users on unsupported systems or browsers won’t be able to authenticate with Duo and will lose access to certain university systems—including email, NetID tools, and administrative applications.
What you need to do
- If you are receiving warnings from Duo, make plans to update your operating system and browser if needed to avoid disruptions.
- The Duo Mobile app should update automatically via the iOS App Store or Google Play Store on supported mobile OS versions. Action will be required if users have manually turned off automatic updates for that application.
