CSU Pueblo Department of Social Work Expands Access with Fully Online MSW Program
New asynchronous modality, offered in partnership with Extended Studies, is open and accepting applications for fall 2026
PUEBLO, Colo. — July 21, 2026 — The Colorado State University Pueblo Department of Social Work, in partnership with the Division of Extended Studies, now offers its Master of Social Work program fully online. The asynchronous format is open and accepting applications for fall 2026, giving working professionals, caregivers and students across the country a path to a graduate social work degree without relocating or attending scheduled class sessions.
The online MSW carries the same curriculum and standards as the department’s established in-person program. The program launches with Generalist Standing in fall 2026 and will open Advanced Standing enrollment in fall 2027. Generalist Standing admits applicants with any undergraduate degree who have completed at least 18 credit hours in the liberal arts and leads to a 34-credit, two-year degree. Advanced Standing, opening to applicants in 2027, is designed for holders of a CSWE-accredited Bachelor of Social Work degree and is completed in one year with 35 credit hours. Both tracks are grounded in advanced generalist practice, preparing graduates to serve across a wide range of settings and client populations rather than within a single clinical specialty.
Students develop skills in assessment and intervention with individuals, families and groups, community and organizational practice, policy analysis and advocacy, and culturally responsive work with diverse populations. Graduates are prepared to pursue licensure as an LSW or LICSW and to work in healthcare, schools, social service agencies, nonprofits and government agencies.
All coursework is completed online, and the practicum is completed in person within each student’s home community. Practicum Liaisons and the MSW Practicum Coordinator conduct regular virtual check-ins throughout each placement, and seminar coursework remains online as well. Students gain hands-on field experience without leaving their jobs, families or communities.
