CSU Pueblo celebrated the completion of the ThunderBowl’s new turf replacement project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday evening at the Pack House Patio. The $250,000 project, supported by the NFL Grassroots Turf Replacement Grant and CSU Pueblo, transforms the home field for ThunderWolves football and a venue that hosts high school games, football camps, and community events throughout the year.

The event brought together university leadership, community partners, and former Thunderwolf Deyon Sizer to mark this meaningful investment in the future of CSU Pueblo Athletics and the Pueblo community.

“The ThunderBowl is where dreams begin, memories are made and ThunderWolf pride comes to life. None of this would be possible without the power of a strong public-private partnership. Together, we are creating opportunities that will impact our university and community for generations to come.”

Dr. Paul Plinske, Vice President of Athletics and Strategic Partnerships

A Facility Built for the Community

The ThunderBowl was built by friends of football to benefit not only CSU Pueblo but to promote the sport throughout Southern Colorado. Since opening in 2008, thousands of youth, middle school, and high school athletes have competed at the facility alongside CSU Pueblo college student athletes in practices, camps, and games.

The stadium has hosted state championships and a national Division II semi-final, cementing its place as a premier venue for competitive football in the region.
