Move-In Day: New ThunderWolves Arrive on Campus

Cars lined up along the curbs early Friday morning as new and incoming students hauled boxes, coolers and lamps into their residence halls for the first time. Parents pushed loaded carts down sidewalks. Resident advisers pointed families toward open doors and waiting elevators. By afternoon, hallways across campus filled with the sound of tape guns and dolly wheels.

Volunteers met families in parking lots and stacked totes by floor number. Golf carts ran loops from the loading zones to residence hall entrances, shuttling siblings and supplies from car to curb.

“Our residence halls give students an opportunity to develop independence, learn how to live and communicate with others, and build the skills they need to navigate college and life beyond campus.” Monica Gallegos, Director of Residence Life & Housing

Housing staff expect this year’s incoming class to fill more rooms than last fall’s group did.

“We are expecting around 700 students to move in this semester. Last year we had about 650 residents move.” Carl Rodriguez, Associate Director of Assignments & Guest Services

Marie Humphrey, Ph.D., Vice President of Student Affairs, spent the morning walking between halls to greet families. Outside one residence hall, she shook hands with an incoming first year student before the two exchanged a few words about the semester ahead.

Not every trip up to a dorm room needed a cart. Some families carried the last box by hand, walking together across parking garages and up ramps before saying their goodbyes.

President Rhonda Epper stopped by several dorm rooms Friday afternoon, talking with new students and their parents about the semester ahead. She answered questions about class schedules, meal plans and what to expect during the first weeks on campus.

Move-in continues through the weekend as returning students settle back into campus life. By Monday, residence halls across CSU Pueblo will be full again, ready for a new academic year.
